Client: LumbaCurve
Gordon Ellis & Co. advised LumbaCurve throughout the development process. We were able to reduce the price of each unit and increase the product quality at the same time. Originally manufactured by injection moulding rigid polyurethane foam, it is now rotamoulded in polyethylene, with a striking high gloss finish. It is estimated that 150 million days absence from work are caused by back pain in the UK. The unique LumbaCurve product aims to help reduce this number, reporting successful NHS trials. It was originally manufactured by injection moulding rigid polyurethane foam, however rotamoulding in polyethylene gives the product a lighter weight and makes it easier to carry and cheaper to ship. Surprisingly, the high gloss finish is not a spray coating or paint, but is actually achieved during the moulding process, which takes considerable skill to produce. The gold logo is also a ‘mould-in graphic’, which becomes part of the product while it is moulded. By cutting out the extra finishing time for these two steps, we have been able to reduce the price of each unit and increase the product quality. We gave rotational moulding advice throughout the development process and currently manufacture for them. If required, we can also supply our advice on an international consultancy basis, if manufacture is required overseas.
